In Ida by Joseph Knowles Sr., delicate line drawings of female figures are transmuted into elemental meditations. The artist's medium is as much the subject as the figures, the smudged and blended charcoal by turns revealing and obscuring forms drawn in fluid ink lines. Linear marks made using a printing press underlay the drawings, lending texture and a dynamic visual narrative.
